Why climate change is good for the world

Some people may not think that global warming is a big issue, but it is. While global warming is bad, it also has its advantages. Global warming has several benefits, which include increases of human welfare, fewer winter deaths, lower energy costs, and probably fewer droughts.
"Especially cold winters cause a rise in heart failures far greater than the rise in deaths during heatwaves." Global warming would make our winters even warmer. More people die from cold-related deaths than heat-related deaths. According to the article, there are approximately 29,000 cold-related deaths every year. 
The increase of wealth will help us adapt to future climate change because according to the article, we could probably gain more benefits and lessen some of the harm done by adapting. Our best bet would be to just adapt because it would help us out a lot. 
As a matter of fact, yes we should care about how climate change has caused a 1.4% increase in global economic output. According to the article, it's "the difference between survival and starvation", for some people.  1.4% can really add up. One day it could possibly get up to about 5% and if we all work together, we could possibly end world poverty and hunger. 
It could be possible to compare the costs, but it could be possible to compare the benefits. For the cost, all you would really have to do is look at previous costs. For the benefits, same thing goes. Some policies you would have to go by are build wind turbines, growing biofuels, and substitute wood for coal in power stations. 

Literacy Blog: SAT's

At first, I thought it was crazy that people would just make things up to put into their SAT essay. “Just make one up. And I’ve heard about students making up all sorts of events, including deaths of parents who really didn’t die.” Even though that is kind of messed up, you have to do what you have to do. Especially whenever they give you topics to write a response to such as an episode of "I Love Lucy." Nobody from our generation really watches old-timey shows like that anymore. So, after reading this, I understand why people make up random things to put into their SAT essays. I also found it interesting whenever the article said, “It doesn’t matter if [what you write] is true or not,” because I would conclude they wanted you to say something that is true. But as I said earlier, you have to do what you have to do and if making up a story is going to get you a passing SAT score, I don't see why you shouldn't make something crazy up.
I understand that this generation is generally "smarter" than a lot of previous generations due to the fact that we have more technology which allows us more capable of being smart, and I also understand how judges have to be more strict while grading such tests. Nevertheless, if the writing part of a SAT is only worth one-ninth of the whole test, I don't see why they're so harsh grading them. You would figure that they would pay more attention to the parts that matter the most, but I guess they don't look at it like I do. Even though credible writing is crucial for getting accepted into a decent college, they should grade all three parts of the test just to be more fair. Everybody has different weaknesses and strengths.

4. Summary: This iPhone case you can eat is made out of brown rice and salt. It's great for when you are in need of a snack. It also takes about a month to make.

5. Reaction: 5 pt. This event doesn't affect me at all because I don't own an iPhone. Even if I did, I would have to order one which could take a month to get to me. I would forget about it by the time I actually received it. I wonder if it gets old and starts to mold. Hopefully not, because then less people would be interested. They should also make more flavors instead of just brown rice and salt, because not everybody likes brown rice and salt. Also, some people might be allergic to brown rice and salt.. you never know.

6. World Impact: This event impacts the world because this is a huge advantage in the technology world. Cases you can eat? Woah, that's out there. People like me who love to eat, think this is a great invention. But, it might be kind of weird because if someone sees someone else just eating their phone, they're going to think that they have some serious problems. But this affects the world because this a a huge advancement in the technology world. They should make edible phone cases for every phone.

1. Topic: Google cancels out Christmas and the rest of December because of an error

4. Summary: There was an app on Android devices that had Google calendar. Whenever they went to the app to date people's birthday and Christmas, December wasn't there. It didn't exist. Someone said "Is Google the new Grinch who stole Christmas?".

5. Reaction: I feel pretty neutral about this topic because I don't have an Android device or the app they are talking about. Yeah, it's pretty crazy that Google made a mistake like this. People make mistakes all the time, no worries. They got the problem fixed anyways. So, maybe Google isn't worried about the Mayan apocalypse after all. 

6. World Impact: This event effects the world because some people were worried about not having December on their little Google Calendar app thing. If I was a user of the Google Calendar and I wanted to date someone's birthday or a holiday, I would be pretty upset December wasn't there. Well, not really "upset", just worried I guess you could say. But now, Google has the error fixed. Hopefully there will be no more problems or complaints.

Gretchen WBR Scheming and Scamming

 Some new terms we learned this week are scam, identity theft, vulnerable, and phishing. Scam means an attempt to trick someone, usually with the intention of stealing money or private information. Identity Theft is a type of crime in which your private information is stolen and used for criminal activity. Vulnerable is where you’re in a position that makes it easier for you to be harmed or attacked. Phishing is when people send you phony e-mails, pop-up messages, social media messages, texts, calls, or links to fake websites in order to hook you into giving out your personal and financial information.

Our digital literacy component for this week was scheming and scamming. Scheming and scamming is when you can get your identity stolen and can pretty much ruin your life.. credit wise. The kinds of personal information identity thieves look for is your name, bank account number, social security number, DOB, and your phone number/address. Things that could happen if your identity is stolen is that you could lose money, become bankrupt, you can be blocked from accounts, serve jail time, you would become responsible for purchased items, and it could bring your credit score down A LOT. 5 rules you can follow to protect yourself from online scamming are that you should always avoid opening the message or email in the first place, don’t click on any links or download any attachments; they might contain viruses or spyware, don’t reply, mark as “junk mail” or “spam” for your email provider, or report it to your social network site, and if you are concerned about an account you have with a company, contact its customer service department by phone. Make sure you verify the company’s contact information elsewhere online first.

This helps me in my personal life because this could help me from getting my identity stole. This helps me in my academic life because someone can steal my identity at school and get into all of my school files and ruin everything I have saved. This helps me in my interactions online because now I know that to never open up any phony e-mails I get because they could contain a virus or spyware and that I could get my identity stole.

Overall, my week has been amazing! This week is going to be even better though. I have a lot of stuff going on, and a few things to celebrate. This upcoming week is going to be awesome.

1. Topic: World's Most Liked Picture On Facebook
2. Article Title: Obama's Celebration Moment Is Most-Likely Facebook Photo Ever
3. Article Source: Mashable
4. Summary: There was a picture on Facebook that Obama uploaded that had him and Michelle Obama (his wife) hugging each other and he captioned the picture, "Four more years." There were 3,165,382 people last night who liked this picture.. but that has probably changed by now. He also posted the picture on Twitter, and it became the most re-tweeted picture of all time.
5. Reaction: I think that America should just deal with who won president. Some people think that he won because of his race. I don't think that, because he isn't black, he's Hawaiian. There's a big difference there. Everybody was so worried about Romney and Obama's background and they weren't even concerned about who would provide a better economic plan for America. But, this is a great picture of Obama and his wife. Even though some people didn't want him to win, they should still respect him.
6. World Impact: This effects the world GREATLY. We're talking about who won President! The president is the person who is over the country pretty much. Whatever Obama decides to do to the world, people should respect his decisions because he's President and he has a high authority. He can do whatever he wants to do and nobody can really say anything about it. Him and his wife are a good couple. They should be together for a long time.

Weekly Blog Review

Some new terms we learned this week are  track, target, demographics, and cookies. Track means when companies collect information about you based on your online behavior. Target is when companies tailor content to you based on the information they have collected about you. Demographic are the common categories at the population, such as age, gender, and race. Cookies are data files that are stored on your computer when you visit certain sites, they are often used by companies to identify repeat customers & personalize visitors' experiences.

The new web 2.0 tool we used this week is MixBook. Mixbook is pretty awesome. It's like a virtual scrapbook. You can choose any background, color, picture, and pretty much everything how you want it. We made our MixBooks on how you can be smart while on the Internet. Some benefits of tracking and targeting is that you can personalize interest, save time, limit search results, and better shopping. Some risks of tracking and targeting are that results aren't accurate, different people using same computer, stereotypes, viruses, and privacy. My MixBook is at the bottom of the page. Someone deleted my MixBook and I didn't know until after I embedded it on here and now I can't figure out how to delete it.. so now, it's at the bottom of the page.

Some of the positive aspects of Mixbook are that it's fun to use. It's not boring like some of the things we have previously used. It's very colorful (which I like colorful things.. plain stuff is just boring) ..and it's not that hard to use. It's very easy to figure out. Some negative aspects of MixBook are that it is soundless. It has no sound, whatsoever. That's pretty boring. You would think that it would have some type of music to go along with it, but it doesn't.


The digital literacy component we learned about this week is "Tracking and Targeting", and "Limiting Data Collection". I would tell you the benefits and risks, but that's all in the first paragraph. But anyways, some tips for limiting data collection online are that you should use key words, shorten question/or thing you are searching, do not provide email address, unsubscribe from website, avoid "too good to be true" products, deals, and opportunities, use antivirus software, and disable internet cookies. All of these things are ways that you can limit data collection.

All of these things help me in my personal life because that way I don't get aggravated with the computer. It helps me in my academic life because if I use antivirus software, I won't get a virus on the school computer. Finally, it helps me with my interactions online because I know that I should never click on ads that seem to be too good to be true. 

Overall, my week has been great. I had an awesome Halloween. (smiley face). We FINALLY got into our new building. It looks amazing!! I'm still not used to all of this transition stuff quite yet. But, I think I'm starting to get the hang of it.
