Weekly Current Event

1. Topic: Google making new tablets and phones.

2. Article Title: Google unveils new Nexus tablets and phone

3. Article Source:CNN

4. Summary: The goal of this is to take back some of the attention that the recent technology have gotten here lately. This phone is HUGE! It looks like a legit mini-Tablet. It"s only about $300, while the iPhone 5 is roughly $700.

5. Reaction: I feel like they should have made this phone smaller. The size of it really bothers me because some people have little pockets and there is absolutely no way possible they could fit that in their pocket. But, the price of this phone isn't all that bad of a deal. It is pretty much just like an iPhone. It has everything an iPhone does.

6. World Impact: This impacts the world because some people actually go pay the outrageous price of an iPhone, whenever they can just go pay for this one. They're wasting money. If you have T-Mobile, it's $199.. even cheaper. It's also pretty much just like an iPad. iPads have better quality, but the tablet is just the same and is cheaper.

Weekly Blog Review

Some new terms we learned this week are represent, persona, avatar, and anonymous, and inhibited.
Represent means how you present yourself to others. Persona is an image or personality you show to other people. Avatar is a graphic image to represent you online. Anonymous means hidden identity. Finally, inhibited means participle; someone who is careful or restrained in actions or impulses.

The web 2.0 tool we learned about and used this week is Glogster. Glogster is like a virtual pinboard and it allows you to put all of your thoughts on it. You can add photos, add music, and add other information. It's pretty awesome. My Glogster is at the top..

Some positive aspects of Glogster is that it has a bunch of different things you can choose from. You can choose from different banners, difeerent colors, (there's a lot of colors, by the way.) you can also change the font, change the color of the font, upload any picture you want to use on your 'pinboard'. You can also make as many as you want. The most positive thing about Glogster, is that it is free.

Some negative aspects of Glogster is that it can be a bit confusing to use. If you don't know what you're doing, then it's pretty confusing. It's hard to find how how to upload pictures.. it took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to do it. Also, it's hard to get the font from changing when you're trying to type something. But other than that, it's pretty simple.

The digital literacy component we learned about this week was "Being Real Online". This was an important lesson we learned. It taught us a lot of things. Being real online can be important in many ways. It can save you a lot of embarrassment. If you're being fake online, then people will know you are a liar, and then they will probably say something to you. That will really embarrass you. Also, you want people to respect you, not neglect you.

This affects my personal life because it taught me not to be fake so I won't be made a butt of. Also, people will respect you and me more if you're honest. This helps me in my academic life because if I pass the quiz about this, it will bring my grade up. This helps me with my interactions online because if people see someone being fake online, they're going to bully that person. So it's better if you just be real online.

Overall, my week has been AMAZING. This week of school has been by far the best yet. I just can't wait until next Thursday whenever we finally get to move into our building. It's only been 2 months late, but it feels like 2 years. I can't wait to find out what being in an actual school with these awesome people is going to be like.

Technology Weekly Current Event

1. Topic: Bras

2. Article Title:A bra that could detect cancer

3. Article Source: CNN Tech

4. Summary: This bra has sensors in the cups that can pick up temperature changes in the breast tissue and detect cancer. It also has a heat fingerprint sort of thing that can alert the doctors about it.  They look kind of like sports bras.

5. Reaction: I feel very strong about this new invention. This bra could save many innocent womens' lives. I know if I was older and could afford it, I would probably buy one. Because breast cancer runs in my family. If I had breast cancer, I would want to know about it as soon as possible and get rid of it fast before it's too late.

6. World Impact: This event impacts the world because women can go buy this and save their lives. This could be a cure for breast cancer. Not exactly a "cure", but it's probably the closest we're going to get. You only wear it for 12 hours. But still, that could save someones life.

Weekly Blog Review

Some new terms we learned this week and last week are target, offender, bystander, upstander, escalate, and deescalate. Target means victim. Offender means person with malicious intent.. (bully). Bystander is someone who eyewitnesses the "attack" but does nothing. An upstander is an eyewitness that does something.. (defends). Escalate means it becomes more intense - increase. Finally, deescalate means decrease - make less intense.

A new web 2.0 tools we used this week and also last week is WeVideo. WeVideo is a website that allows you to create movies made of pictures, music, videos, and etc. It's complicating at first, but when someone shows you how to use it or when you get the hang of it, it's not really all that hard. It felt like it took me a week to finish my video, but even though it took awhile to make it, it was worth the time. My video turned out great. Here's mine..............

Some positive aspects of this WeVideo website are that it's very fun to use and you can make it as long as you want it. Some websites have it to where you can only make it so long but with WeVideo you can make it as long as you want it. Also, you can add music and pictures which always make everything better and more interesting.

Some negative aspects are that whenever you first start to use this website, it's not as easy to use as the rest of the web 2.0 tools we have used previously in the year. This website was probably the most complicated thing to figure out, no doubt.

The digital literacy component we used this week is "Turning Down The Dial". This taught us all about cyberbullying. It told us that we should ALWAYS be upstanders, NEVER be a bystander. Bystanders are badd. But, anyways, we watched a few videos about cyberbullying and we answered some questions about each of the videos we watched. Overall, it was a very good, but touching lesson.

This helps me in my personal life because I learned that everybody has feelings. Sometimes, people are really sensative and get hurt by the littlest, slightest mean thing you say to them
, and they get upset, and some people kill theirselves over bullying. So, always keep your opinions to yourself. This helps me in my academic life because I learned something new and I can always use this lesson in school. This helps me with my interactions online because if someone is trying to start crap with me, I know now to leave them be, and don't even mess with them. Also, if I see someone getting cyberbullying on Facebook, Twitter, etc., I know what to do.

Overall, my week has been great. I couldn't ask for a better one. Even though I got moved from beside of my bestfriend Matthew in geometry, I am starting to somehow bring my grade up . It just makes me mad that everybody gets out of school tomorrow and we don't.

Wednesday Current Event Look Up

1. Topic: A new Angry Birds coming out

2. Article Title: Angry Birds Star Wars coming next month

3. Article Source: CNN News

4. Summary: Finnish video game maker Rovio is getting with Lucasfilm for the most recent addition to its empire of moody birds. The new game will take the popular birds now showing off lightsabers, blasters and '70s hairdos. "From the deserts of Tatooine to the depths of the Death Star," according to new and creative material of Rovio's.

5. Reaction: I feel super excited about this event because I am a HUGE fan of Star Wars.. (sounds kind of weird, but it's true.) I also love Angry Birds, so this will be a great combination of 2 of my favorite things. This event affects me because once Angry Birds Star Wars comes out, I am installing the app on my iPod and that's all I'm ever going to play for a while. I have already beaten the Angry Birds Space and the original Angry Birds, and Angry Birds Seasons. All I have to do now is to beat Angry Birds Star Wars

6. World Impact: This event will impact the world because I know a lot of people who like Angry Birds and Star Wars. They will play this game until they beat it probably. Also, Apple, and the Angry Birds creators will earn a whole lot of money from all the people who buy the app. Android will also gain a bunch of money. I just think everyone will love the new Angry Birds Star Wars that comes out in November.

Weekly Blog Review

Some words we learned about this week are self disclosure, reciprocate, and sexting. Self disclosure means sharing private, sensative, or confidential information about yourself online. Reciprocate means to give in return. Finally, sexting means sending or receiving sexual explicit photos or videos through texts or other digital devices.

A new web 2.0 tool we used this week is Make Beliefs Comix. This website is AWESOME! It's like a virtual comic script. Make Beliefs Comix lets you make your own comic strip about anything you want.. because it's make believe. We made our Make Beliefs Comix about sexting and how you can build relationships online. Right there's mine.

The first comic shows an example of how you can avoid sexting. The second comic shows how you can build a good relationship online.

Some positive things about this website are that it's very fun to use. You can use your imagination with this website. I also like how you can put any character on there. There can be talking alligators, cats, dogs, or people. I think it's very awesome.

Some negative about this website are that you can only go up to 4 slides. It would be way much better if you could go up to say about 8 because then you could have a whole story and it would be even more awesome but you can't, it only goes up to 4.

The digital literacy component we learned about this week is sexting and building relationships online. You should never, ever, EVER send provacative pictures to someone through email, or especially text massaging. Because if that person wanted to, they could forward that picture to everyone in their contact lost and pretty much ruin your life for forever.
No, you're not cool if you think sexting is cool. So, don't do it, because you're just making yourself look stupid if you do it. The other digital literacy component we learned about this week is building good relationships online. Don't stalk people on Facebook, Twitter, etc. That is just creepy. That's also not a good way to try to build a relationship with someone online. How would you feel if you found out someone was stalking you on the Internet? It wouldn't be so appealing, would it? So, just
be kind to them, and not creepyish. THen, you should have a pretty good relationship built up with them online.

This information helps me in my academic life because if I were to send a provacative picture, it could get around to the whole school, and people would bully me. Then , I wouldn't want to come to school. In that case, I wouldn't get too much of an education. This helps me in my personal life because I don't want to be the type of person that is creepy. I would hate to be called the creepy person. It also helps me because it's helping me retain a good reputation for myself. If I was the type of girl who sent naked pictures around to anyone who asked for it, I would be considered nasty, and usually, that's not really all that good. This also helps me with my interactions online because if you appear to be creepy, no body is going to want to talk to you online because everybody knows you're that creepy person that goes around and stalks them on the Internet. It's not really good.

Overall, my week has been awesome. It's flown by, but it was a very good week, except for all the tests/quizzes . I've been waiting for Friday to come.. and it's finally here !!!
